
Course Trainers
The trainers are all accredited by the University of Cambridge ESOL Teaching Awards. They are all very experienced English teachers and IH tutors have typically worked in a variety of settings and locations. All our trainers are committed to teacher development and have an active, ongoing interest in this field.
Our 2012 trainers include:
- Claire Fenton
- Claire has been in EFL since 1997 and has taught in Russia, Spain, Argentina, the UK and Vietnam. Prior to joining our team of CELTA trainers, Claire coordinated our YL and Kindy programme and was then appointed the Academic Manager for Apollo in Le Van Huu, Hanoi. She has tutored on the IHCYL both on-line and in–house and has also conducted a variety of training workshops in various countries. She is also an oral examiner for the Cambridge YL Suite and the IELTS exam
- Vera Fernandes
- Vera has worked in the EFL sector for twenty five years and in that time has been a Teacher, a Trainer, an Examiner, and an Academic Director of Studies. The majority of this time has been in the UK and she has worked in both the private and public sectors, teaching on courses such as General and Academic English, Business English and Young Learners. She started Teacher training with Cambridge 10 years ago and has worked on intensive courses in Thailand, Vietnam, South Africa, Ecuador, Brazil, France, Australia and the United Kingdom. When Vera is not travelling for work, she spends her time at her home-base in Bristol England.
- Brian Breivik
- Brian has worked in ESL since 1992. He has taught in Spain, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. He has been involved in teacher-training since 1993 and been a CELTA tutor since 2007. His team’s materials for the Teacher Training Project TELT were published in 2007 and are used by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Education for all in-house training. Brian is an oral examiner for ESOL’s PET and First Certificate. He’s also an examiner for the IELTS Writing and Speaking exams. Brian has extensive experience teaching young learners and adults. He has taught English for Academic Purposes at the tertiary level and provided in-house training on the use of technology in the classroom.
Gerald Bagge
- Gerald has been in EFL since 1988. He has spent lengthy periods of time teaching in Switzerland and Canada and considers both these places to be home. Freelance since 2004, Gerald has worked on a variety of training projects in North America, Australasia, Europe and Asia. He has helped to set up new centres and coach new CELTA tutors. He is an assessor for the Cambridge CELTA Scheme.
- Onny Holdaway

Onny Holdaway comes from Rotorua, New Zealand, and has served as an ESOL teacher and coordinator and IELTS examiner since 1991 in Thailand, China and New Zealand. In recent years he has been a learning advisor for several diplomas and degrees, a lecturers' union representative, and an ESOL teacher training tutor based at his home polytech, Waiariki Institute of Technology. As a CELTA tutor he has worked in four other countries.
